I spent many months photographing US military veterans from World War II, Vietnam, Korea and Iraq. It is not uncommon for the senior vets to be dropped off at an appropriate facility and then be pretty much abandoned by their families. The younger vets, amputees, without exception, took their injuries for what they were, and focused on getting on with their lives.
